Birdwatch Batch #1

My first Birdwatch Batch post! These occasional posts feature some of my favourite photographs from my birdwatching adventures. I have once again returned from Middleton Lakes, an RSPB nature reserve around Tamworth, Staffordshire which I have been traditionally visiting for almost two years. This time I’ve got the most out this bird feed, and more nuthatches than I’ve ever seen. Before our Halloween party at home, I also got to have a nice winter dusk walk here, all with the calm songs of blackbirds, waterfowl, and the occasional flushed pheasant. Enjoy!

The European robin, my favourite bird, watches a little startled by the noise of my younger brother while it has its meal of laid seeds before quickly fluttering off.

The great tit also joins in the feast.

The nuthatch is looking quite eager to feast…

…But unfortunately flies off from the clattering of two people on a walk.

SUPERSTARLING! Common starlings are social and noisy, they gather in enormous flocks called murmurations, one of the many which I’ve seen on my first trip to Middleton Lakes in January 2023. No wonder they get a bit pesty.
